Northern Newspaper Tries to Censor Bishops

Last week, the historically Protestant Unionist Belfast Telegraph ran a piece on Aontu candidate with quotes that appeared to imply that the party intended to aggressively target rape victims if elected.

The headline was later changed, but the fiasco made it clear how difficult it is for prolife politicians. Speak to pro abortion outlets and they will twist your words, don’t speak to them and people won’t know who you are.

Now, the Catholic Bishops have stated that a proposed letter for publishing in the paper has been withheld because they would not agree to censor it.

In a tweet this evening, Primate of All Ireland and Successor to Saint Patrick, Archbishop of Armagh Eamon Martin, wrote the following:

According the Primate of All Ireland, the paper are refusing to carry the statement from the bishops which condemns the policies of pro Westminster party Sinn Fein. The historically ‘Nationalist’ party have now abandoned ‘Nationalism’, choosing instead to embrace a vaguely Gaelic form of Unionism, which supports Westminster making laws for Northern Ireland. The party also supports British abortion companies aborting Irish babies. Many of its followers are perplexingly oblivious to the fact that they have become a Unionist party which answers to the call of London, not Ireland.

The sections in question that the Belfast Telegraph sought to remove were the following:

We say to all voters: make your voices heard. Make your vote count. Speak up clearly and unequivocally for the rights and urgent needs of the most vulnerable in our society. This includes the rights and dignity of unborn children who are being increasingly relegated – culturally, politically and legally – to the realm of the worthless and sub-human.

In an inexplicable medical, scientific and cultural contradiction, so many of our local politicians seem willing to disregard the rights of our children in the earliest stages of their development before birth, while at the same time properly and stridently defending the rights of animals, plants, trees and rivers. In a similarly bizarre twist of logic, many who stridently proclaim their commitment to equality for all are, at the same time, quite content to support legislation that would discriminate against children in the womb, even directly targeting those with disabilities, and denying them the very right to be born.

We believe it is possible to create a respectful and life-supporting environment for every person, at every stage and in every state of our lives. A culture of love and care that embraces all – especially the most vulnerable – offers the greatest hope for humanity and its future. Both mother and child in a crisis pregnancy have a right to a humane and life-affirming outcome for both. Rather than using medically destructive interventions to take away life, it is possible to build a loving and supportive society around every child in the womb, including those diagnosed with a disability.

Evidently, there is something offensive in wanting disabled people to be alive.

Yet this should not shock, only weeks ago the world was disgusted at barbaric scenes in which Westminster vassal politicians celebrated making it illegal to help women in crisis pregnancies.

In another instance, schoolchildren were forced to write pro abortion and anti Catholic slogans at a so called ‘integrated school’.

Meanwhile a number of priests have now spoken quite strongly against the pro Westminster policy of Sinn Fein and the support that they have for killing Irish children in British abortion chambers.

Sinn Fein’s voters are hoping that answering to Westminster and killing their own offspring is the key to a better future. We can safely assure them that it is not. Not only that, but it is an insult and betrayal to men like Bobby Sands to say that it even could be.
