‘Far away from Notre Dame, another church is facing a sad fate. Dadivank Monastery, constructed between the 9th and 13th century, lies in the areas that are now being forfeited by the Armenians. The precious art contained within has begun to be moved to Armenia lest it be inevitably destroyed. Many are resigned to the destruction of the church or perhaps conversion into a Mosque. Father Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, abbot of the monastery, has stated that he does not intend to give it up, stating, President of the Republic of Artsakh Arayik Haroutyunyan just called me on the phone and told me not to touch the crosses at Dadivank Monastery since Artsakh won’t be giving Dadivank Monastery to the Turks’’
“I was waiting for a miracle to happen since I wanted to remove the cross-stones that our ancestors have carved and placed here 800 years ago. I was even afraid of being punished for that. I have been afraid and have been waiting for a miracle for the past two days”
Many within the region are now setting their homes on fire before they are abandoned.
The ‘peace’ currently agreed in Armenia is a temporary one. Fighting will resume again soon. Unfortunately, Nato’s alignment with Turkey has given them the upper hand any potential developments. Like the Abbot in Dadivank says, it is now a miracle that must be awaited”.
The violence against Armenian Christians has escalated once again, with the Islamic nation of Azerbaijan now brazenly committing brutal war crimes against them.
Buoyed by tacit support from NATO, the EU and the USA, the Azerbaijanis are now boldly taking advantage of the war in Ukraine to violently assault Armenia.
According to Breaking Defense, a large number of imports of weapons to Azerbaijan originate from Israel.
“From 2016–2020, Israel accounted for 69 percent of Azerbaijan’s major arms imports — a number that represents 17 percent of Israel’s arms exports for that same period”.
The EU is set to increase imports of gas from Azerbaijan significantly over the next five years, with Ursula Von Der Leyen stating that Azerbaijan was a ‘key partner in our efforts to move away from Russian fossil fuels’.
The reason?
Russia's war in Ukraine and its aggression there.
Reasonable enough, but what about Azerbaijan's brutal treatment of Armenia?
Take for example the female Armenian soldier who yesterday has her limbs cut off and her severed fingers placed in her mouth. Is that an action endorsed by Ursula Von Der Leyen?
The war crime was filmed of course as the Azerbaijanis did two years ago with similar crimes, in order to psychologically terrorise the people of Armenia.
US politician Nancy Pelosi will land in Armenia this week in a ridiculous stunt designed to show false compassion with the Armenian people, who are now mere pawns as NATO's selective moral outrage and the EU's greed have ruinous consequences. To be cynical, it is likely that her visit has more to do with the 200,000 Armenian American voters in her state of California than with real efforts at peace.
To further complicate matters, President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran has expressed support for Armenia, stating:
“We have always emphasized the respect for territorial integrity, national sovereignty and rejected any change in the recognized borders between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia. The parties should resolve their differences through dialogue and peacefully based on international law.
“As the Islamic Republic of Iran protects its national interests and security and the region, it also declares its readiness to help resolve the disagreements between these two neighboring countries”.
One headline this week wrote:
“US Researchers Confirm 98% of Cultural Armenian Heritage Sites in Nakhichevan Destroyed by Azerbaijan
At least 108 Armenian monasteries, churches, and cemeteries in Nakhichevan have been demolished or blown up by the Azerbaijani government, according to the Caucasus Heritage Watch”.
Rock band System of a Down released a statement decrying the EU's role in the latest attacks by Azerbaijan's terrorist regime.
What comes next?
Does the EU, USA, Israel and NATO continue to allow a terrorist Islamic regime to continue to brutalise a Christian one? Does Russia and Iran continue to have moral high ground on this issue by virtue of supporting the obvious underdog?
One of Joe Biden's most admirable achievements has been the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turks in 1915 (something that Ireland still refuses to acknowledge).
It will mean nothing if the West continues to allow, even support, this war on the world's oldest Christian nation.
