A short clip of Senator Lynn Ruane berating Professor William Binchy during the Oireachtas Hearings on Assisted Suicide is circulating the world on (Anti-)Social Media: multiple copies are in my recent X (Twitter / “TwiX”) Timeline in Canada.
Perhaps it should be titled: ‘The Sharp Tongue of Ireland!’

It is patent that Ruane does not care what Binchy has to say and it is obvious how she will vote on the issue. Ruane harangued Binchy with her Identity Politics and, as noted by David Quinn, “…even accuses him of being a 'white, privileged man' (thereby singling out his race, class and sex).”

Amazing what 6 minutes can do to Ireland’s reputation. This boorish performance does not represent Ireland well — never mind the fact it shows her fixed position on the matter under discussion.
