President Joe Biden gave the State of the Union [SOTU] address to the US Congress last night.
I have to hand it to Ol’ Joe — he can talk! The Democrats were eating out of his hand with the same old “schtick” and his All-American Smile, which has helped him get into the White House.
Joe has a Duchenne Smile — we fall for it every time.
“Reproductive Rights”
Most CA readers know that Biden supports “Reproductive Rights” a.k.a. abortion up to the minute of birth — even for a healthy full-term baby. Joe reiterated his position during the SOTU speech, promising: “If Americans send me a Congress that supports the right to choose, I promise you, I will restore Roe v. Wade as the law of the land again!”
He touted Kate Cox (who was in the Gallery as his guest) for procuring an abortion in another state from Texas because “the fetus had a fatal condition” and claiming that “Her doctors told Kate that her own life and her ability to have children in the future were at risk if she didn’t act.”
Kate Cox’ child had Trisomy 18, otherwise known as Edwards Syndrome. According to the Cleveland Clinic the death rate for Edwards is awful. 60-75% survive a week: 20-40% survive to their first month and “no more than 10% survive past their first year.” Delivering the baby would not put Kate’s life or her future fertility in any more danger than a normal delivery. That said, abortion here is to directly kill the child in-utero — because “they are going to die” — without ever feeling parental love, or getting treatment / palliative care.
I have great difficulty when people like Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi push abortion, though claim to be devout Catholics.
Joe also called for the guaranteed right to IVF, nationwide. [In Vitro Fertilization.]
This is a very difficult topic for infertile couples but probably the biggest moral issue is the destruction of unwanted fertilized embryo’s — new human beings. Naturally Joe sidestepped all ethical questions in his SOTU speech.
The article above discusses some of the moral issues with IVF from a lay perspective.
A related Pro-Life / Whole Life issue which really worries me is his ongoing support for the War in the Ukraine. Sadly, Joe destroyed all hope that the US might broker peace with Russia.
