* “with distinction”
On 11 January, US President Joe Biden awarded Pope Francis the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction which is the highest civilian honor in the United States. This was to recognize the Holy Father’s dedication to peace, human rights, care for the poor, and environmental protection. (Biden was to have awarded the medal during a visit to Rome planned for 10# January but the trip was cancelled.)
The President’s 𝕏 account tweeted: “Pope Francis, your humility and your grace are beyond words, and your love for all is unparalleled. As the People's Pope, you are a light of faith, hope, and love that shines brightly across the world. Today, it was my honor to award His Holiness Pope Francis the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction.”
Though Saint John Paul II has also received the medal, it was pointed out by some on 𝕏 that this year it is not a “good look” for the Holy Father.
Firstly, though Biden commuted most of the death sentences in the US and claims to be an active Catholic, he is unrepentantly pro-abortion. (Over 1 million babies were killed in the States in 2023.)
Also, some of the Biden choices are dubious company for the Pope this year, in particular George Soros, Hilary Clinton and Jane Goodall. (Sweet little ‘ol lady Jane Goodall wants to reduce the world population by a mere 7.5 BILLION people!)
