French Catholics Increase Demonstrations Against Restrictions

Last week, we reported on the beginnings of French resistance to severe clampdowns on Mass. This past weekend, the demonstrations continued, in beautiful and moving fashion yet again. They also took place in more cities than had previously been the case, after agreements were reached in some areas to permit protests and outdoor prayer, where before they were threatened with arrest.

One of the demonstrations took place at Saint Augustin in Paris, where Catholics knelt and prayed the Rosary outside their closed church.

Many priests, religious and lay people then spoke outside of the church, demanding that their Masses be restored.

Prayers and protests also took place at St. Sulpice church in Paris.

Away from Paris, Catholics gathered also in Montpellier.

Brive la Gallairde in the South West also staged a demonstration.

Other cities such as Toulouse took part too.

One of the biggest crowds was based in Bordeaux.

Lastly, our favourite of all of them was the beautiful singing that occurred at Nantes.

It is touching to see the Eldest Daughter of the Church recall some public fidelity to Our Father. We hope that it may persevere in the face of its two existential threats, the sterility of the Secularism of Macron and the menacing rise of Islamic terror.
