Many Western governments might desire to do it, but the Chinese government have already started imprisoning Catholic meme merchants.
In China, an individual known as ‘Jacob Pius’ has fallen foul of the humourless thugs at the Chinese Communist Party after posting tongue in cheek calls for a Catholic monarchy in China.
A post on Bitter Winter explained the matter.
Starting in 2014, Pius posted about wanting to have a Catholic monarchy in the Yuyencia region of China, advocating for a Traditionalist Catholic theological state.
Clearly, these posts had little to no political power against the might of the Chinese Communist Party, but that did not stop them from arresting the young man.
As it transpires, Pius’s real name is Pang Jian and he has spoken out about the plight of Christians under the name Gao Yang. He had been particularly vocal in speaking out about the persecuted Christians in Hebei, where their churches have been destroyed and their religious practice interfered with by the CCP.
He was detained in January 2021, with Chinese authorities ushering his case along in September of that year.
His supporters are small but have been trying to raise awareness about his case, which is tragically one of countless lost in the mire of the Communist Party’s rule.
Once upon a time, churches across the world prayed for the conversion of Communist Russia, perhaps it is high time each Mass was preceded by a prayer for the same for China.
We can’t allow fear to rule our interactions with the beast forever.
