Notorious Politician Criticises Christians for Praying on Good Friday

Over the past two years, English politician Elisa O’Donovan, who is a Limerick Councillor, has repeatedly targeted Catholics in a fashion that would make Ian Paisley blush.

First, she repeatedly hassled Catholics praying while their churches were closed in Limerick. She even called the Gardai on those of faith.

In January, O’Donovan joined Sinn Fein and Labour in claiming that a public Rosary was designed to interrupt a vigil for murdered teacher Aisling Murphy. When this was proven to be untrue, O’Donovan and Sinn Fein/Labour refused to apologise.

This lack of apology was despite the fact that those praying the Rosary were repeatedly subjected to sectarian abuse during the prayers and threatened with murder for their faith as a result of the incitement by the politicians.

Now, for the second year running, the politician has decided to use her official account to target Catholics at Easter.

O’Donovan insinuated that Good Friday celebrations were in fact designed to oppose a rainbow walk at a crossroads.

O’Donovan actually went one further and claimed that it was deliberately done to mock the murders of two gay men in Sligo.

Even O’Donovan’s supporters were pointing out that this was clearly a Good Friday event.

Her party, the Social Democrats, are the most anti Catholic in Ireland. They have even threatened to ban Confession in recent years.

London raised O’Donovan also stated her opposition to public prayer in general, revealing that is her issue to begin with.

It is quite clear that Limerick politicians are out of control and are being allowed to scapegoat Catholics for anything, even imaginary wrongs.

Although the Ombusdman refused to take action last time, we encourage everyone to contact them again about the behaviour of this ‘politician’.

Dear Ethics Registrar, Limerick City and County Council,

I wish to make a formal complaint under Section 9.4 of the Code of Conduct for Councillors contained within the Ethical Framework for the Local Government Service.

My complaint involves Social Democrats County Councillor, Elisa O’Donovan

Section 9.4 outlines examples of unacceptable use/misuse of social media by councillors if posts;

·     Use profane or derogatory language or content

·     Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of gender, civil status, family status, sexual orientation, disability, age, race, religious belief or membership of the Traveller Community;

·     Illegal activity or encouragement of same;

On Good Friday 2022, Social Democrats Councillor Elisa’Donovan posted a series of comments on her twitter account. Please see relevant details of the tweets and links below. It is my opinion that Councillor O’Donovan’s tweets breach the Code of Conduct of Councillors.

As a Catholic, I personally find this series of tweets and subsequent comments that her tweets invoked, grossly offensive, unbecoming of a political representative, in breech of the Code of Conduct and factually incorrect.
I ask the Ethics Registrar to investigate this incident and report back as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely,
