In Ireland, every citizen is required to pay €160 in one of the most draconian and least rewarding television license fee regimes. It would not be such a cruel regressive tax if the broadcaster represented the views of a majority of the population, instead they are essentially a mouthpiece for the upper middle class, largely based in the wealthiest areas of South Dublin.
On New Year’s Eve, former RTE presenter Aengus Mac Grianna, took part in a segment that was a skit by ‘satire’ website Waterford Whispers. We put satire in quotation marks because Waterford Whispers started off as a humour website but now posts mainly pro goverment articles that reinforce mainstream narratives, with or without humour.
In the ‘skit’ last night, he said ‘God was implicated in latest sex scandals, forcing himself on a Middle Eastern migrant’.
Under new hate crime legislation, Mac Grianna and RTE can be prosecuted.
We encourage everyone to take the following actions.
Call Donnybrook Garda station and report the hate crime, which violates the new ‘Harmful Communications’ Bill which states
Distributing, publishing or sending threatening or grossly offensive communication 4. (1) A person who— (a) by any means— (i) distributes or publishes any threatening or grossly offensive communication about another person, or 4 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 (ii) sends any threatening or grossly offensive communication to another person, and (b) with intent by so distributing, publishing or sending to cause harm, is guilty of an offence.
The Garda station number is +35316669200

It is a complete waste of time to contact the Broadcasting Authority, who will do nothing. This was a hate crime, in violation of the law and needs to be treated as such.
