Irish media outlet The Journal ran a poll this past week which asked ‘Do you think we should stop playing the Angelus?’ , referring to State Broadcaster RTE’s twice daily airings.
One would expect a website that reaches the demographics that they do (Government worshipping Liberals) to be opposed the faith, especially given the coverage of the church this past week across media outlets in Ireland, yet Journal readers have turned out in massive numbers. 22,000 of them voting to keep the Angelus while 8,000 voted against it.
We can only assume that perhaps those people have read the Mother and Baby Homes report and have realised that it attributes responsibility to the families, the fathers and to the local councils while emphasising the kindness of the nuns, who had to regularly beg the local authorities for assistance.
