Kanye West had his Bank accounts shut down, his sponsorship deals terminated and was condemned by family and friends for his criticisms of Judaism.
Yet, a far less famous ‘celebrity’ has attacked the Catholic faith with little expectation of repercussions.
Colson Baker, known by his stage name Machine Gun Kelly, was a modestly successful rapper who has since attempted to reinvent himself as a cringe teen ‘punk pop’ singer, despite being 32 years old.
Alongside girlfriend actress Megan Fox, the tryhard ‘rocker’ has released a new clip mocking Catholics in which he dresses as a ‘priest’ who administers ‘Communion’ to Fox in a lame video designed to be overtly sexual, but which just comes across as gauche and uncool as his music.
The video has been widely panned online, even by fans of the C List singer, who found it to be disrespectful and tasteless.
Posting the images online, Fox, who has struggled to make a film of any significance since teenager franchise Transformers in the 2000s, wrote “on Sundays we take communion”, and included emojis of prayer hands and rosary beads.
Many of the replies rightly pointed out Hollywood's double standards.
They wrote:
“What happened to cultural appropriation? Why is it wrong to dress up as an Indian but okay to mock the Catholic faith.
It's absolutely abhorrent and offensive and I'm so sick of the double standards.”
“Why is that all you celebs mock Christianity? What's the agenda? And why you y'all hate God so much? I guess the devil is real”.
Perhaps Kanye West should mock Catholics next time instead, it is unlikely he would be cancelled for it.
