Does Artificial Intelligence argue FOR or AGAINST abortion being murder?
A post from Dr. Calum Miller on 𝕏 caught my eye because he asked an AI program — ChatGPT — as to whether Abortion is murder, or not!
What is ChatGPT?
Most of my information on AI is from the bible of all knowledge — Wikipedia! (Okay! Okay! Wiki has limits, but it is a start.) The quotes below are from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ChatGPT
ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is a chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched on November 30, 2022. Based on a large language model, it enables users to refine and steer a conversation towards a desired length, format, style, level of detail, and language. Successive prompts and replies, known as prompt engineering, are considered at each conversation stage as a context.
Although a chatbot's core function is to mimic a human conversationalist, ChatGPT is versatile. Among countless examples, it can write and debug computer programs; compose music, teleplays, fairy tales, and student essays; answer test questions (sometimes, depending on the test, at a level above the average human test-taker); generate business ideas; write poetry and song lyrics; translate and summarize text; emulate a Linux system; simulate entire chat rooms; play games like tic-tac-toe; or simulate an ATM. (Automated Teller Machine)
So, Calum put a series of questions to ChatGPT to see whether it would come to the rational conclusion that abortion is murder.
Bias in AI / ChatGPT
Calum did note that ChatGPT: “desperately trying to avoid the conclusion that abortion is murder, though it eventually relented.”
Other AI programs are showing significant bias. Google’s Gemini, an image generator, is being lambasted on 𝕏 because users are finding that Gemini is racist! Against white people!
When asked to produce an image of a viking and a Pope, below are the images one user got back!
Dr. Calum Miller’s post
On 𝕏 [https://x.com/DrCalumMiller/status/1758508979099951454?s=20] Calum suggested putting the questions below to ChatGPT in order, to see it will logically come to the conclusion that abortion in murder:
Try these prompts (in order):
1. Define murder
2. So if you intentionally kill another human being, that is basically murder, assuming you are not acting in self-defence or at war?
3. OK. Can you describe the life cycle of a dog from an embryological point of view?
4. OK, and the same is broadly true for Homo sapiens?
5. OK, so it is safe to say that fertilization is the beginning of mammalian life
6. OK, and when the human being is in its early stages - for example - at the blastocyst stage, it is possible for it to die?
7. Can it die because someone has deliberately killed it? Similar to a miscarriage, but provoked intentionally by a human being?
8. That's really interesting, thank you. Do these induced abortions typically take place in contexts of war, or normally during peacetime?
9. OK, and presumably they don't necessarily take place out of self-defence? Sometimes the mother is healthy?
10. OK, so you have told me that induced abortion causes the death of a human being, and that it does not necessarily occur in self-defence or during war. So this means that abortion is murder, according to your definition of murder
(It took a bit more pressure - mainly asking it the basic rules of logic, and to accept them - to get it to finally concede)
I hope those who have ChatGPT will try this and report back to my 𝕏 address below.
AI and Catholic Arena
To my knowledge no author submitting to CA is using ChatGPT or other AI assistance! (The Web-Site Builder we use does provide an AI assistant.)
AI is progressing so fast that many main-stream columnists, authors and reporters could be out of a job in the near future. Be warned as to ‘the fare’ these programs will spew out.
