PAPAL TEACHING
Pax Christi in regno Christi — The peace of Christ in the kingdom of Christ
Pope Pius XI
Pope Pius XI instituted the feast of Christ the King as a solemn affirmation of Our Lord’s Kingship of every human society. He wrote the encyclical QUAS PRIMAS (On the Feast of Christ the King) in 1925. His motto was: Pax Christi in regno Christi.
Pope John Paul II
“Christs kingdom goes well beyond the borders of Palestine. Everyone who is of the truth hears His voice and recognises Him as king.”
Pope Benedict XVI
“Dear friends, the Kingdom of God is not a matter of honours and appearances but, as St Paul writes, it is “righteousness and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit” ”
Pope Francis
“While Jesus fled earthly greatness, he "makes the hearts of those who follow him free and sovereign," the Pope pointed out, saying Jesus frees us from the slavery of sin. "His Kingdom is liberating," where every disciple is treated like a friend and not a subject, he added, even though He is above all sovereigns.”
THE BLOOD OF SAINTS
Viva Cristo Rey! — Long live Christ the King!
Saint José Luis Sánchez del Río
“I will never give in. Viva Cristo Rey!'"
Blessed Miguel Agustín Pro
Blessed Miguel Agustín Pro was a Jesuit priest active in ministry when President Elias Plutarco Calles came to power. Calles was violently anti-Catholic and ordered state atheism in Mexico.
The Catholic Church faced intense persecution, leading to Bl. Miguel’s execution on Nov. 23, 1927.
As he faced the firing squad he said to his executioners:
“May God have mercy on you. May God bless you. Lord, Thou knowest I am innocent. With all my heart, I forgive my enemies,”
Blessed Miguel Pro died proclaiming “Viva Cristo Rey!” — Long live Christ the King!
Christ is King!
