& is more Catholic than some American politicians!
JD as the running mate for The Donald was a big surprise. Who the heck is he?
Gleaning information from Wikipedia (sorry!) and X / Twitter he is from Scottish:Irish descent — so must be a good guy! He is a survivor of a rough childhood: his mother has an addiction. He is now 39 years old (refreshing!); was a Corporal in the Marine Corps (disciplined); graduated from Yale Law School (intelligent & educated); became a venture capitalist (businessman); authored a book on his childhood (can express himself); in 2023 became a US Senator (politically savvy); and married his Law School sweetheart and they have 3 children (Awwww!)
He was raised conservative evangelical Protestant but converted to Catholicism 2019. Some of his views are listed below.
Abortion
Vance opposes abortion and supports a federal ban on abortions after 15 weeks.
LGB rights
Vance opposes the Respect for Marriage Act. He said, "I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman, but I don't think the gay marriage issue is alive right now. I'm not one of these guys who's looking to try to take people's families and rip them apart."
Trans rights
Vance opposes gender-affirming care for minors.
Border security
He supported The Wall.
Foreign policy
Vance said the U.S. should not pull out of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), but argued the U.S. should shift its focus to East Asia. He agrees with Trump that some European countries are not spending enough for their own security.
Israel-Palestine conflict
Vance supports U.S. funding to Israel in the ongoing Israel–Hamas war.
Russia-Ukraine war
Vance is a vocal critic of U.S. military aid to Ukraine in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War. He suspects military aid is being misused by Ukrainian politicians.
Child-free marriage & divorce
JD blamed "the childless left" for America's woes. He praised conservative Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán for encouraging married couples to have children and said that parents should "have a bigger say in how democracy functions" than non-parents!
Antitrust laws
Vance has expressed concern that large tech companies have too much influence in politics. He called for the break-up of Google & Meta.
Climate change
Vance has downplayed the effects of climate change.
FAMILY
JD and his East-Indian wife, Usha, look like the perfect “power couple.”
Usha is a prominent Indian American attorney with many accomplishments in her own right.
She is Hindu, but supports his Christianity. They have three children: Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.
CONCLUSION
Whether you agree with his position or not, it is refreshing to hear someone in American politics talk rationally on Foreign Policy — rather than hear him laugh like a jackass when asked some soft-ball question.
CONCLUSION
A man like this is the best defense from a further assassination attempt on Trump. Lefties would hate Vance to take over the Presidency!
He would have my vote.
