The Olympics opened today in France with grotesque scenes.
The worst was a parody of Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper by 18 Drag Queens. The central female figure was wearing a silver head-dress which clearly mimicked the halo of Christ seen in many pictures.
Later, a man painted blue and wearing a loin cloth of vines was placed centre-table. He is said to represent Dionysus / Bacchus who was the Greek god of wine, vegetation, fertility, festivity, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, and theatre. Livy documented the Roman festival of Bacchanalia & provided a scandalized, colourful account with frenzied rites, sexually violent initiations of both sexes, all ages and all social classes.)
Apparently, there was also imagery of a Golden Calf idol, and a Pale Horse — thought to represent an image from the Book of Revelation. The organizers have made it exquisitely clear that 2.4 billion Christians are NOT welcome in France. (‘Bet that by Monday they will be denying this was anti-Christian imagery.)
I will try to make their wish come true! Here on, I will not be buying French produce like cheeses, or wines. When going to Europe I’ll choose Spain, Italy or Greece for sun, and Austria, Hungary and Croatia (etc!) for beauty, culture and a decent welcome!
I will write my French ambassador to — politely! — express my disgust. Others might wish to do the same with their respective ambassador.
