As Italy prepares to be led by Giorgia Meloni, Cardinal Robert Sarah has met with the trailblazing female politician.
In line with Pope Francis's vision of a church that goes ‘to the margins’, Sarah has met with Meloni despite efforts by the British media to paint her as a ‘fascist’. One British media outlet even published an image of her with her arm extended, implying that a natural body movement was actually a Roman salute.
The exact details of the meeting have not yet been revealed but it is sure to inspire panic among Anglo commentators, one of whom has already declared that Meloni is ‘hard right’ while claiming that this meeting is evidence that ‘Cardinal Sarah's vision of the church is very different to that of Pope Francis’. Incidentally, the same critic appeared to praise the schismatic Belgian bishops by calling their defiance of Rome a “big move”.
The same Anglo commentator also compared Meloni to Matteo Salvini, once known for kissing Rosaries in public.
Salvin was touted as being a ‘hard right’ politician before being put in power also, only to end up being quite centrist.
Sarah and Meloni probably have some shared ground in their belief that Europe should at least make some effort to maintain its culture in the coming years.
Sarah has said that Europe has lost its roots and is close to dying, as evident in its declining birth rates.
