The only time that secular authorities have had much interest in religion during the past year, have been on occasions where faith could be used for their own agendas, case in point being the recent conference in the Vatican.
Whatever one’s views on the vaccines, the decision to use the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro to promote them is an incredibly tasteless and tacky move, especially in the manner with which it was done.
‘Vaccine Saves’ was written across the statue, with Reuters bizarrely commenting:
‘‘Rio de Janeiro's landmark was lit up on Saturday with a message of vaccine equality as developing countries around the world struggle to get vaccines’’.
The image was paid for by feminist group Grupo Mulheres do Brasil.
This group are a feminist group who support abortion. In particular, the group have made many bizarre recent social media posts stating that women who are raped should not be given special financial help to support their child once it is born, referring to it as a ‘Rape Scholarship’.
Whatever the intention of this gesture, it failed.
