In Germany two weeks ago, the European Championships opened with a fairly drab performance.
There were dancers but little evidence of European Culture, let alone a celebration of it.
It certainly stank of commercialism, Globalism and every reductive ism that you can think of. It stood in marked contrast to the impressive celebration of French culture at the opening of the Rugby World Cup.
By stark contrast to its European counterpart, the Copa America is being held in the United States of America this year and managed to include prayer and a Bible reading into the opening ceremony.
Let us hope that the Americans include something similar in the 2026 World Cup when they host it.
