With public celebrations of Easter illegal (allegedly), groups of Irish Catholics gathered at their churches to pray the Rosary and the Stations of the Cross this past Holy Week in order to honour Our Lord’s death and resurrection.
In Sallynoggin, a Rosary Vigil was held on Good Friday and on Holy Saturday.
In Dundalk, they also took part in the Easter Vigil with the Rosary.
There was also a vigil at the Penal Altar in Wexford.
On Easter Sunday morning, a group formed and prayed the Rosary.
Groups also gathered in Waterford and Drogheda.
There will be no synchronised reopening of public Mass, the bishops are not going to defy the government, large numbers of Catholics will not show up looking for Mass. Let’s be realistic, these types of events are the best that we can do with the power that we have. Many are understandably worried about breaking the law, these events do not break any laws. Show up, pray the Rosary, ask for God’s help. God fights with the small battalions, as one famous Irishman put it.
