Does Pope Francis follow Catholic Arena?
Maybe, if reports today are anything to go by.
Israeli news outlet Haaretz reports that the pope is ‘furious’ over images of Israelis spitting on Christians, amongst other things.
Wadie Abu Nasser, spokesman of the Council of Heads of Catholic Churches in Jerusalem, appeared on Army Radio on Wednesday and told the nation that Pope Francis was aware of a video of Christians being spat upon in the street.
The video is certainly not the first and likely not the last in what has been an increasingly repulsive situation for Christians in the Holy Land.
Last week, Patriarch Pizzaballa was installed as a cardinal. Pizzaballa has been a fierce critic of the current Israeli government’s treatment of Christians, his promotion to cardinal can certainly be interpreted as a political move in the region by the Vatican.
