Francis Praise Cardinal Pell for Economic Reform of Vatican

In a new interview to mark his decade as pontiff, Pope Francis has spoken upon a wide range of topics including gender theory, Synodality and the abuse crisis.

He also discussed Cardinal George Pell, whom he praised for reforming the economic situation within the Vatican, during which he was mysteriously accused of a baseless crime before being imprisoned following a kangaroo court, a decision eventually overturned.

Francis said:

On the economic side, I want to pay tribute to the man who helped me, who was Cardinal Pell, a great. Unfortunately he had that problem that was innocent later. But he had to suffer a year and two months in jail being innocent and could not continue him. But it was Cardinal Pell who started the economic reform, and I am very grateful to him.

The comments come despite Pell criticising Francis in a memo prior to his death, which described the current pontificate as a ‘disaster’.
