The crackdown on the Traditional Latin Mass in Melbourne made headlines on the week that it occurred and it is continuing to do so now even a week after the fact.
In an article entitled Young Catholics defy Pope, choose Latin as rift grows in Australia's biggest church, mainstream outlet ABC News spoke to many of the young people who attend the Latin Mass in the massive cathedral in Melbourne.
The article points out that it is mostly young people who attend the Mass and gives them a voice for their devotion to attending it:
It's divine and so uncompromising – you're witnessing something that's beyond your own feeble existence.
You can tell this mass is not about you, it's not about entertainment, it's really about the Lord.
It also quotes a priest who says:
"He's talking a lot about 'everyone is welcome in the church', but I'm sorry to say that a lot of Catholics don't feel very welcome at the moment in this pontificate."
As mainstream coverage goes, the Latin Mass could not really ask for more and it is likely that many young people will read it and wonder what is so enthralling to their peers.
