Cardinal Robert Sarah has released a statement upon a meeting that he has held with Pope Benedict XVI.
The social media update, in French, is translated below.
Last Saturday, the 24th April, I had the pleasure of being received in a private audience with His Holiness Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. This meeting took place in an atmosphere that was serene and dignified with the exchange of beautiful reciprocal memories.
I renewed my filial feelings of fidelity, affection and gratitude to the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI for the safe, voluminous, rich and solid magisterium on which we rely in our ministry of the 'ministries of Christ and stewards of the Mysteries of God' and for pastors for the salvation of loved ones in the service of Holy Mother Church.
On this occasion I presented Pope Benedict my best wishes for his recent birthday making me the ambassador of so many brothers and sisters who not only in Africa but in all parts of the world, united in prayer, address their wishes of good health, long life in serenity and spiritual joy.
The blessing of our Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI concluded this emotional moment of special grace.
God be blessed now and always.
