Comments from Pope Francis have drawn a mixed response online.
Excerpts from an upcoming biography were published, with comments regarding Hungary dividing opinion.
In an excerpt published on Vatican News, Francis is quoted as criticising the European Union for not respecting the ‘uniqueness’ of Hungary while also reminding Hungary of the importance of ‘unity’ within Europe.
He said:
"so that he (Orban) understands that there is always so much need for unity…as well as from Brussels which seems to want to standardize everything, which should respect Hungarian uniqueness."
The comments have been met with support from some, particularly in Hungary.
Others expressed concern that Francis has called for Ukraine to negotiate with Russia, seeing this as part of a wider trend.
