Fresh from losing a referendum against mothers by the biggest margin in Irish history, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has compared Saint Patrick to criminals.
Speaking on the luxury annual political junket to the United States, Varadkar (who was educated at a Protestant school in Dublin) made a bizarre insult to Patrick in order to promote his party’s open border policies.
Varadkar’s government currently allows tens of thousands of people to tear up their passports before entering the country, before offering them benefits. Yes really, tens of thousands per year.
Varadkar told an audience that Patrick was a ‘migrant to Ireland, a single male undocumented on’.
Patrick of course, was a slave, brought her forcefully as a teenager.
He then returned as a missionary, not a migrant, becoming a bishop, not a criminal, as Varadkar appeared to insinuate.
